STO on demand

STO on demand is an on-demand public transit service provided in the Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors as a complement to the regular bus service, paratransit and active transportation modes. This additional option is designed to help meet the population’s mobility needs in those two sectors and facilitate transfers  to the regular public transit system.

  • bookings required; 

  • offered for transportation within the coverage area or to the Lorrain station for transfers to the regular bus system;

  • this public transit service involves taking a taxi to more than 530 existing or virtual (e.g. designated grocery stores, lamp posts, etc.);

  • STO on demand takes people door to door if they are signed up for paratransit;  

  • flexible and adapted to your transportation needs; 

  • a practical way to get where you want to go, when you want, within the coverage area, during standard service hours; 

  • riders traveling in the same direction can share a vehicle 

  • service offered henceforth by Bob Taxi from July 16 2024.

Coverage area

Following the Rapibus’ extension to boulevard Lorrain and the changes to the bus service farther east, the area covered by STO on demand was expanded to boulevard de l’Aéroport to ensure better coverage for this sector. 

Lorrain park-and-ride stop

An STO on demand stop  is now available at the entrance to the Lorrain park-and-ride . Residents  can use this service to transfer to a regular public transit route at the Lorrain station that will take them to other parts of Gatineau or to Ottawa.

An additional 175 stops

To facilitate access to the service, 175 stops (virtual and physical) have been added, bringing the total to 530.

Book a ride

Plan ahead or book within as little as 20 minutes.

Three ways to book:

  1. With the STO on demand mobile app:

    • download the STO on demand free app;

      Download Transit app on apple store  Download Transit app on Android

    • set up your account or open a session;
    • book your ride; and
    • get to the physical or virtual stop (rendez-vous point), 5 minutes ahead of time.
  2. Online, through the booking site: stoalademande.sto.ca

  3. By calling 819 525-8932* 

* Credit card payment is not an option when booking by phone. You will have to pay the driver in cash. To pay by credit card, book your ride through the mobile app or online.

 Once the booking is completed, you will receive:

  • an email confirmation;
  • Three notifications issued ahead of the STO on demand ride’s arrival:
    1. one notification the day before;
    2. one notification one hour before the vehicle’s arrival; and 
    3. one notification 10 minutes before the vehicle’s arrival.

Good to know:

  • When you book through the STO on demand app, you receive notifications through the app on your mobile device.
  • If you book online or by phone, you will receive text message notifications.

Plan a trip through the Transit app

When you plan a trip through the Transit app in the Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors, the STO on demand service will appear in your trip options. You can book right away because Transit will redirect you to the STO on demand app. 

When you use Transit to book STO on demand to a park-and-ride, the app chooses the best time for your ride according to the next bus’ schedule.

Schedules, fares and payment options

Schedules

  • Mondays to Fridays, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m

Fares

The fare is the same as for the regular service.

Take advantage of fare reductions, free rides and promotions

Student, Senior or ÉCHO: send your 16-dogit Multi card number to stoalademande@sto.ca. Once we have updated your profile, the fare reduction will automatically be applied when you book your trip.

Are you traveling with children? To take advantage of the Family Rate, click on “Add a reduction / subscription” before confirming the reservation. Enter the number of children and click “Confirm”.

Payment options

Do you have a validated Multi card? The STO on demand service is included! Simply send your 16-digit Multi card number to stoalademande@sto.ca ahead of time.

So you use STO on demand from time to time? Pay for your trips:

  • by credit or debit card* when you book online or through the STO on demand app
  • with cash ** 
  • with a bus ticket.

NOTE: Because the vehicles are not equipped with readers, the e-wallet and 1, 3 and 7-day passes cannot be used for STO on demand.

This option is only available on the STO on demand app and online, on the booking site.

  • Pay each booking separately; 
  • Add credits to your virtual account, which will be debited to pay for your rides.

**Paying the driver

Choose this option if:

You wish to use cash (exact fare required) or a bus ticket to pay for your ride.

If you have a valid STO pass. Be sure to send us your Multi card number ahead of time to stoalademande@sto.ca.

Other information and rules

STO on demand vehicles are accessible and can carry up to five (5) people, including one in a wheelchair. Given that this is a public transit service, you may be paired with other riders travelling in the same direction.

Car seats are not provided. As with taxis, they are not mandatory, but if you wish, you can bring them with you and install them as you wish.

Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged 14 and over may ride on their own.

Guide dogs, service dogs and small pets are permitted on board. Small pets must be kept in a closed crate, in the rider’s lap. They must not make a mess or inconvenience the other riders.

Anything brought on board by a rider must at all times remain with them and under their control. Nothing may be stored in the vehicle’s trunk.
